Re: Arms of the 10th Illinois Cavalry

I found a "History of the First Regiment Iowa Cavalry Veteran Volunteers" (1890) by the regt'l surgeon Charles H. Lothrop. On p. 104-5 he writes that in late March (19th-30th), 1863, the First received : 250 Colt army revolvers, 500 sabers and 600 Sharps carbines. Before that they had been armed with a mix of weapons. In summer 1865 they traded-in the Sharps for Spencer repeaters, but that wasn't in Arkansas. Not as good as quarterly returns, but maybe useful. The book is pretty good and is on Google Books (free). Haven't looked for the Missouri cavalry yet.
