Wilder's Brigade: Spencers & Henry rifles

When one thinks of Wilder's Brigade as to what weapon they were armed with, the Spencer Rifle come first to mine. Normally the Henry repeating rifle is not associated with Wilder. He did try to buy 900 Henry rifles first but the New Haven arms company was unable to produce that amount to fill the order when Wilder needed them. They could only produce around 200 to 300 rifles per month. However the scouts for the 17th Indiana did purchase their own Henry rifles as did other members of Wilder's Brigade. It is estimated that there were as many as 100 to 200 Henry rifles in use by Wilder's Brigade along with their Spencer rifles. Henry rifle were far better suited for scout work since they did carry twice the ammuniton in the magazine plus a Henry could be fired at 30 rounds per minute while a Spencer was limited to 14 rounds per minute.
