Re: Spencer Ammunition on Cole's Expedition of 186

Sherry,

You are welcome. I don't often write on such topics, but I had been in those references recently to settle the "what constitutes a section of artillery" question for myself just a few days ago.

Back in the middle 1970s I was a park ranger at Fort Laramie National Historic Site, and my tasked specialty was to give ranger talks and answer questions about the trails that passed through or near Fort Laramie. So, on my days off I wandered within a day's drive of there and ranchers were very hospitable to me and took me to see things they had always wondered about on their own land. I had a ball! I found out the hard way about the near constant winds in Wyoming and had to send off for a "Smokey" hat with a restraining band because I got tired of having to chase my hat across the parade ground while in the middle of a ranger talk. The public loved it, though, and I was a hit more as a sort of vaudeville act than for what I said, or so it seemed to me.

I wish you well with your quest.

Bruce
