Re: What rifle was used by the 10th OVI and 183rd

Bill thanks I will take you up on the offer for the Article and will email you for it. No offense taken about my Great Great Grandfather. He was a German in the mostly Irish unit. He went AWOL and deserted for a year and a half then returned to the unit and within a year was Court Martialed for "Calling a Captain a Thief". He was put in the stockade by his commander and left there when the rest of the unit returned to Cincinnati to Muster out. He wrote a letter to the equivalent to the Judge Advocate asking why he was kept in the stockade for six weeks and not told when he would be released. The Officer in charge of the stockade said they never got any paper work. The Judge Advocate wrote back that he had been acquitted and to release him and send him back to Cincinnati with another Ohio unit so that he could muster out. I also read a story of how the 10th Ohio Vol Inf. had captured a distillery and drank the whiskey till they were all drunk. When commanded to fall in and start marching the men refused unless they could march in front of the rest of other units. George Schuch did reenlist in the 183rd Ohio Vol Inf in 1864 and was in the thick of the fighting at the Battle of Franklin. Thanks for the info.
