I find that the footnotes in this book (and the others he has edited) contain a fantastic amount of information. In this instance, the reference is again to Louis W. Brown's battery.

The CSR's of the officers of Lawrence T. Brown's battery confirm their positions as members of Co. H, 1st Ark Mntd Rfls. However, their is a gap in their CSR's between August and November 1861 when they may have been employed on artillery service.

I just can't find anything that confirms their temporary use as artillery from October 1861. There is reference to a history of Co. H 1859-1897 at https://digitalheritage.arkansas.gov/finding-aids/848/ but I have no access. It may hold some info confirming their possible role as artillery.
