Re: articles on the civil war in arkansas

I am no writer, but there are two battles in Arkansas which have been mishandled in past interpretations in my opinion.

#1 The Battle of Pine Bluff: Every account written about this Battle repeats the mistake first written by Ed Bearse. Bearse writes mainly from the official reports and not much more. However, he relied on a local historian who mistook the Princeton Pike of today, as the Princeton Road of 1863. these were two entirely different roads. Even the latest article written by Mark Christ repeats this mistake. This along with other sources in my opinion change the reason and conduct of the battle as far as the Confederates are concerned.

#2 The Battle of Marks Mill: This Battle, although a Union defeat, was the Battle that saved Steele's Army and thereby Little Rock, and the States of Arkansas for the Union. Had that battle not occurred, and Steele waited 3 days for his supply train to return from Pine Bluff, there was a better than even chance that the Confederate Army coming out of Louisiana would have captured the Union Army at Camden, rather than fighting at Jenkins Ferry. More study is needed on this supposedly unimportant Battle.
