In remembering many years ago the long discussion on W.O. Coleman, prior to this post. I remember the post about the death of Captain Hering (please excuse the poor spelling), around the time that the 46th was being formed, I know off and on Coleman was recruiting, and suspicions are on Freeman and some of his command. I found a rather interesting item in the National Archives today and thought it would be best to share it as a post on this thread. The record is .entitled "Confessions of William Baker, Guerilla". In this confession Baker talks all about being recruited and serving with Coleman as a Guerilla.

I also ran across an Interesting Newspaper clipping regarding Colonel Coleman on page 5 of the Little Rock, Arkansas dated May 16 1911. In the Interview at the Confederate Soldier's Reunion, Colonel Coleman reports that he knew "Charles Quantrell" and his Uncle William "Bill" Quantrill from his youth, and made the astonishing claim that Charles was alive an well in Mexico. Coleman reported that he (Coleman) made arrangement for Charles to escape. Coleman reports that in 1878 Charles met Colonel Coleman in Jacksonport, Arkansas. Colonel Coleman reported that Charles Quantrell had become a wealthy rancher and mining businessman in Mexico. Colonel Coleman reports Charles had changed his name, gotten married and had a family. Coleman reported that he(Charles Quantrill was alive and well in Mexico, but is waiting for the 50th Anniversary of the burning of Lawrence Kansas before returning home to the United States. I thought it would be an interesting discussion. I am interested in what my fellow researchers think about the information.
