John Hutt was still serving as Adjutant General on August 27, 1860, when Governor Conway had the Militia Laws printed and distributed.

He drew pay as Adjutant General on 15 November 1860, which was the date of Rector's inauguration, so I have always assumed this was his final pay.

Edmund Burgevin's name appears almost instantly upon Rector's inauguration in official correspondence and given his relation to Rector, I assume that he was appointed immediately.

As you a probably aware, after being defeated by Harris Flanagin in the election of 1862, Rector left office before Flanagin could return to the state and left Thomas Fletcher as acting Governor for a few weeks. I assume that Burgevin left office at the same time as Rector. This may have been the period when Holt served as Acting Adjutant General, but I have never seen a document that confirms that Holt served in that capacity. I really think that Holt was mistakenly reported to have been the Adjutant General when he was killed by George W. Lucas in 1864, but I have seen nothing that indicates that anyone other than Gordon N. Peay served as AG under Governor Flanagin.

I have no record of Nicholas Bartlett Pearce serving as Adjutant General. Bruce Allardice's book indicates that Pearce resigned from the army in 1858 in order to go into business with his father-in-law, a merchant in Osage Mills, Arkansas. He settled into his new community very quickly and soon won election to colonel of the local militia.
