Thank you Doyle and yes it makes sense. I too thought about the Lorenz but wondered if that many had been imported by 1862, may have, but I lean towards the other. I just wasn't aware that they gave up their weapons when they were furloughed since the thought they would eventually be coming back to VA and instead got sidetracked to Tennessee. But makes sense. And yes I figured that would make about a cartridge box full, but after Shiloh wasn't sure how many men were left in the ranks less than a month after. I doubt 750 were even in it at Shiloh, so they may have had an extra 20 apiece in their haversacks as well.
