Leroy Stiles - Arkansas - civil war casualty

Your research is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing it.

I have been researching my Stiles family for 42 years now and wonder if you might have any ideas as to where I could locate any information on my ggg grandfather Leroy Stiles. He is listed as "killed by the rebs" in the Southern Claims files where his wife, Mary, is applying for rations in 1865 at Fort Smith, Arkansas. I know from the 1860 census that Leroy is alive in Wittich, Arkansas, so he must have died sometime between 1860 and May of 1865. He would have been 72 at that time, so I don't find him in the military, though three of his sons are listed. My guess is that he was killed as a citizen, perhaps near home.

Are there any records you are aware of, that list civilian casualties in the Wittich area? He actually lived in Six Mile township ~

Thanks for taking the time to read this ~ and any response you might have ~
