…On 17 November 1864, a union spy reported that the Tappan's Brigade and Churchill's Division was in the vicinity of Camden, in Ouachita County, Arkansas.

On 22 January 1865, Major General Churchill was ordered to move his division to Minden, Louisiana, and occupy winter quarters.

1/26 Hqs Churchill’s Div, Camp Lee, to Col R G Shaver, Camden: I am instructed by Gen Churchill to direct that you, assuming command of Davie’s Regt, as well as your own, will move your command without delay to Minden, there to report to these Hqs These instructions are based on S O #25/ XII & XIII

1/26/65 Camp Lee, S O #24-Gen Roane with his Bgde, will move on Sat morning at sunrise for Minden, La. The Bgde will take the Shreveport road. Nine miles from Lewisville the command will take a left-hand road, & one mile from this point a right-hand road

1/26/65 Camp Lee-It being absolutely necessary that the naked men of my command be supplied with clothing in view of tomorrow’s march.

2/4/65 Camp Magruder, Hqs Churchill’s Div-Maj Blocker cdg Arty Bn to move his camp here for better forage

2/9/65 Camp Magruder, as the roads make it impossible to assemble the entire Div, Gen McNair cdg instructs Gen Tappan to have Pvt C N [H] Simmons of Co B, 17th Regt shot tomorrow in the presence of your command.

3/20/65 Union commanders in the Department of the Gulf reported on March 20, 1865 that General Tappan's brigade minus Shaver's regiment, was located a Minden, Louisiana, with the rest of Churchill's Division.

In early April 1865, the division concentrated near Shreveport Louisiana, and then moved to Marshall Texas by mid April 1865.
