Abbreviated extractions taken from:
Memoirs of Colonel John C. Wright

...Devil's Backbone-I denounced some of the officers of our regt when I could not reform the left wing-and it cost me when I ran for Col of regt at reorganization...
...Morgan regiment now joined Price's Div at Arkadelphia where it had retreated from Little Rock
...soon Holmes established Camp Bragg at Camden
Here ended my service with the infantry...time passed pleasantly here for a month or so-

The regiments organized by Hindman [including ours] were officered by men appointed by him and not elected. More or less dissaticsfaction had resulted ever since and now came the order to hold elections in these regiments. None but company officers could participate in these elections---I was so inexperienced in such things that I made no atempt to gain favor and was very surprised when Major Yell beat me by a few votes and he was by right entitled to the place Hindman had assigned me-he was a thorough gentleman and our relations always coridal and pleasant. He took no unfair advantage of me, but had been trained in polotics since a boy-besides I had made enemies of the officers involved in the temporary panic Yell was killed at Mansfield.
