Re: Gen Order 108, A&IGO series of 1863, Dec 6, 18

I am looking for evidence of election of regimental officers in other Hindman regiments in the fall of 1863. The Confederate Congress passed the first of its three conscription acts on April 16, 1862. The intent of the Conscription act was to provides replacements for those regiments already in Confederate service, not to raise new regiments. but when General Hindman assumed command of the Trans-Mississippi, he found the state had been stripped of almost all organized Confederate forces and was facing an imminent invasion. General Hindman consciously ignored the letter of the April 1862 Conscription Act’s intent and instead used the Act to conscripted men for new regiments to replace those units which had been transferred east of the Mississippi under Generals Hardy and Van Dorn. Later, the Confederate Congress authorized the acceptance of these somewhat illegally formed regiments and battalions, and in legislation which was announced by the Confederate Adjutant and Inspector General Officer Order Number 108 dated August 4, 1863 gave these conscripted regiments the right to elect their officers just as volunteer regiments had traditionally been allowed to do.

There it appears that the 26th (Morgan) and 27th (Shaler) Arkansas regiments conducted new elections for field officers under this order and replaced unpopular commanders. Is there evidence that other Hindman regiments conducted similar elections in the fall of 1863? This would include:

22nd/35th Arkansas (Rector/King/McCord)
23rd Arkansas (Adams/Lyles/Ried)
24th Arkansas (Portlock/Hutchenson)
28th/36th Arkansas (McRea/Davie/Glenn)
29th/37th Arkansas (Pleasants/Beal/Blacknall)
30th Arkansas (NcNeil/Hart/Rogan)
32nd Arkansas (Gause/Matlock/Hicks)
33rd Arkansas (Grindstead/Thomson)
34th Arkansas (Brooks)
38th Arkansas (Shaver)
39th Arkansas (Johnson/Hawthorn/Cooke/Polk)
