Dear Sir—The undersigned field officers of the three regiments now constituting a brigade of Arkansas infantry under the command of Col. R. G. Shaver, would respectfully solicit you to use your influence to have Col. Shaver appointed a brigadier-general. Col. Shaver commanded a brigade at Shiloh, had his horse shot under him, and behaved gallantly. We regard him as an efficient and meritorious officer and feel that the position is due him on account of his services and merits.
