I do not know of an article dedicated to the AST in general.

There is much information in Leo Huff's "The Military Board in Confederate Arkansas", Arkansas Historical Quarterly, XXVI (Spring 1967).

Glenn Dedmondt, "The Flags Of Civil War Arkansas", (Pelican Publishing Co., 2009). ISBN 978-1-58980-190-5, while not dedicated to the subject, has a lot of information on the early formation of several of the companies that became the AST.
