In Response To: Ballard's Militia Infantry ()

Mark, the notation probably refers to Capt. James W. Ballard's Company 30-Day Volunteers. The company was recruited in Randolph County in response to Col. Solon Borland's emergency call for volunteers to meet an expected invasion of northeast Arkansas that never came off. The company's muster roll bears the following notation: "This company was raised in Randolph county, Arkansas, in response to Colonel Borland’s call of November 5, 1861, mustered into the Confederate service on November 17, 1861, for 30 days, and discharged on December 17, 1861, at Pitman’s Ferry, Arkansas.”
