It is quite possible Robert was able to retrieve his brothers remains and return them home. However, Robert was stationed at the Hospital at Crystal Hill, North Little Rock, a considerable distance from Fayettville. It would have been sometime before becoming aware of his brother’s death. Location and identified of his grave site may have been difficult. But then, Robert was a highly qualified soldier obtaining the rank of Hospital Steward, equivalent in rank to just above a First Sergeant, and filled by pre-war Medical students and Druggists.
