Re: Company H. FirstRegiment, Ar. Infantry,Union

I find a record for a Benjamin I.Long in the yankee MO 8th State Militia Cavalry, Company H. It is possible this is your Ben, with an error in transposition of the initial; the records often are difficult to read. This Ben enlisted as a sergeant with an estimated date of 3-1-1862. Also in the same regiment and company was a George Long, a corporal. The records do not include suffixes, such as the third. There is also a record for a George Long as a private in the same regiment, Company L (this may be the same person).

This may not be your George Long, as the MO records list 7, plus another ten with a middle initial. Can you provide his initial?

As for Marion, I find one in the MO 8th Cavalry (not State Militia) a private in Companies F and I. There is also a record for a Marion in the 11th Cavalry, Company K. All of these records are of yankee soldiers.

I also came across another record for a Marion, and it looks like a typo; can you provide his middle initial?

Any idea what county these brothers lived in at the beginning of the war?
