Major William Levy

Greetings! I'm researching a William Levy who is on the 1860 Census in Fort Smith, AR. He was in Sherman Texas by 1866, per IRS records. He eventually becomes the Mayor of Sherman, and from the point of his name appearing in conjunction with being in Texas until his obituary in December 1902, he is known as "Major Levy." Nothing ever specifically states what regiment Major Levy served in, and the only name match I can find is the 51st Regiment, Arkansas Militia, Co. B; which is convenient given that his obit says he joined in 1862 and that company of the regiment appears to have been raised in Sebastian County. Other than the pay roll (on which the fold3 cards are based), is there anything extant that might list the soldier's age or place of birth or help me make this connection more than guesswork?

Best Regards,
Adrienne Usher
