Yes Sir, that could certainly have dispirited the organization, but I wonder if this isn't very similar to what was also happening with the 11/17th Arkansas. I think Anthony Rushing has determined that Poe's Battalion is really just the 11th Arkansas guys slowly taking "French Leave", Returning to Arkansas and then reforming their old unit. By the Fall of 64, the 11th Arkansas Cavalry (formerly 11th Arkansas Mounted Infantry) is back on the books in the Trans-Mississippi under the command of Col Logan, even though the transfer was officially denied and Col Griffin and the 11th/17th are still on duty in Eastern Louisiana and Southern Mississippi.
