It was not the entire 29 the regiment but a detachment as well as detachments of 4'companies of CPTs Jones, Hearin, Johnson, and Smith. All under command of CPT A. m. Williams of CS Engineers. Seems the Confederates retreated quite hastily as they were outflanked. Williams mentions how the troops scattered when command to retreat was issued. 29th was along the river as sharpshooters, but no mention of flag that I can find. All is found in the OR vol 13
