Damon, I've found no evidence that Hicks' company was an offshoot of Hooker's original company. They were raised in separate (albeit contiguous) counties, and had no personnel in common. It is possible that Hicks raised his company in coordination with Hooker, to form a cavalry squadron, but thus far I've seen no correspondence to indicate that possibility. Unless one of the able researchers on this board comes across a smoking gun, I'm assuming that the two companies were separate and distinct organizations.
