Stover Post Office as it was know at the time was recognized prior to 1848 with the first postmaster being, Josiah Stover c1804 originally from Alabama. The center of the community know as Stover was at the crossroads of the present Dallas County Road 131 and Arkansas Highway 8. This location is about 4.5 miles west northwest up AR 8 of todays Fordyce. Dallas County Road 131 as it is know today was at the time the "middle road" running from Camden to Pine Bluff. crossing the Saline River at Mahoneys Ferry. A lower road between these two towns ran through Chambersville crossing the Saline at Mt. Elba. The upper road ran from Tulip and Princeton, crossing the Saline at Lea's Ferry (called Lee today).

At some time prior to the American Civil War, the quaint name of Bucksnort was mentioned on maps of that era where Stover stood. Josiah Stover, my GGGrandfather died in 1881, but U.S. Postal records do not show when Stover Post Office was closed. His home on todays AR 8 out of which mail was handled was about a half a mile west northwest of the above cross roads of 131 and 8. There is a home there today and my last knowledge of the place is that it is now owned by some Jacobs heirs. When I grew up in the 1930s-40s the home was owned by a widow, Mrs Rosie Jacobs who had at least two sons, Porter and Alfred, both of which served in WW II. One or more of their heirs most likely own the place today.
