I found my 3rd great-grandfather's muster roll on Fold3, R.H. Middleton age 33, private, 36th Infantry Co I, muster in date 23 June 1862, company muster-in roll dated Little Rock 19 July, 1862, and there aren't any more records for him there.

He is not listed in this regiment in any company in the thesis by Jeffrey R. Price, "A COURAGE AND DESPERATION RARELY EQUALED: THE 36TH ARKANSAS INFANTRY REGIMENT (CONFEDERATE STATES ARMY), 26 JUNE 1862--25 MAY 1865." I saw the names of several people in the thesis who enlisted in the same place and the same date as he did but he is NOT in any of the company lists, not even as a deserter.

I don't understand--did he enlist and then not show up at all?
