The "1st Arkansas Infantry" records that Dennis has been looking at is a catch-all category set up to incorporate the records of those soldiers who are identified as being in the 1st Arkansas Infantry, but not proven as belonging to Fagan's 1st Arkansas Infantry. There is a similar category, "1st Arkansas Cavalry", which is huge, since so many Arkansas cavalry regiments identified themselves as 1st Arkansas Cavalry at one time or another (Dobbin, Gordon, Newton, etc.)

In the "1st Arkansas Infantry" catch-all records are the records men who served in the 1st Arkansas Battalion Infantry, 1st Trans-Mississippi Infantry, etc. etc.

Depending upon J. H. Henry's condition when he arrived at Camp Dennison (he had been wounded at Shiloh) he may not have been all that lucid. He may have identified his command as an Arkansas regiment (3rd Confederate was comprised mostly of Arkansans, along with a couple of companies of Mississippians), and the hospital clerk may have assumed that he was in the 1st Arkansas. I'm certain that he was not in Fagan's regiment, since the 1st Arkansas casualty list for Shiloh is remarkably detailed and comprehensive (it not only gives the time of day a man was wounded, but where he was in the line of battle -- center, left, right). A very unusual casualty report. J. H. Henry is not included on the report. I've never been able to find a detailed casualty report for the 3rd Confederate. If one could be found, J. H. Henry may be listed on it.
