Mark, there was a William J. Potts of Pope County who was killed in action at the Battle of Corinth (Mississippi).

He was born c1834 in Pope County, Arkansas. He enlisted in Co. F, Williamson's Battalion Arkansas Infantry, at Bata's Mill, Arkansas, on February 28, 1862. Williamson's short-lived battalion was broken up at Camp McIntosh, near Corinth, Mississippi, on May 26, 1862, and its companies were distributed to other regiments. William J. Potts' company was assigned as Co. K, 3rd Arkansas Regiment Cavalry. This regiment was dismounted at the time, and fought as infantry at Corinth, Mississippi, October 3-4, 1862. Private Potts was killed on the first day of the battle, October 3, 1862.
