Absolutely correct. One of my great uncles was a first sergeant in Company C of the 4th. Two of his brothers were in the confederate army and while home on furlough were captured by the 4th. They were given the choice of enlisting in the 4th or being hung. They decided they were true and loyal citizens of the United States. Like the ferryman in "Josie Wales, they could sing "Dixie" or "Battle Hymn" with equal enthusiasm. They were from Hickory Valley, just south of Cave City.
