The only way that I've ever been able to determine if a soldier died at this place or that was by using the CSR's or widow pension applications. If the CSR of a certain soldier listed that a soldier as dieing at a certain place that would be wonderful. On certain CSR's of soldier at Camp White Sulphur Springs the location of White Sulphurs springs was stated, that was great. Widows applications should be proven to be accepted.

Without this you have a problem with Camp Texas. It is certain that men got sick there (i.e. probably measle from later reports). The first problem is exactly when and how long did the 6th Texas actually stay at Camp Texas?

If we know those dates then we can reasonable say that a soldier whose CSR stated that he died between those dates that he may possibly have died at Camp Texas.

The second problem is that most of the illnesses that were prevelent at that time were not fast acting in their causing of death. As with measles. Measles did not kill directly. It was usually the side effects, such as pneumonia, that actually killed the patient. Many of the sick at Camp White Sulphur Springs were under doctors care for months.

In the case of Camp Texas all reports are that the 6th Texas was only there 2 to 3 weeks. Far to short a time for deaths from prolong illnesses to show up in most records. For some reason our archivist have not seen a need to research or preserve medical records to any extent. They were in fact kept, but what happened to them is unclear.
