Re: Union County, AR Civil War Soldiers

Unfortunately, it is impossible to come up with an "accurate count" of soldiers recruited in Union County (or any other county), due to the incomplete records of Arkansas regiments, especially those serving in the Trans-Mississippi Department.

The following companies were recruited in Union County:

Co. A, 1st Arkansas Regiment Infantry.
Co. C, 2nd Arkansas Battalion Infantry.
Co. E, 3rd Arkansas Regiment Infantry.
Co. G, 3rd Arkansas Regiment Infantry.
Co. I, 6th Arkansas Regiment Infantry.
Co. G, 9th Arkansas Regiment Infantry.
Co. F, 10th Arkansas Regiment Cavalry.
Co. I, 10th Arkansas Regiment Cavalry.
Co. D, 1th (Gee’s) Arkansas Regiment Infantry (redesignated Co. I).
Co. F, 19th (Dockery’s) Regiment Infantry.
Co. G, 19th (Dockery’s) Regiment Infantry.
Co. I, 19th (Dockery’s) Regiment Infantry.

In addition, some Union County men enlisted in companies organized in neighboring counties. A small number of Union County men also served in companies organized in Union Parish, Louisiana, mostly in the 31st Louisiana Regiment Infantry, along with a handful who served in the 13th Louisiana Battalion Partisan Rangers and the 1st Trans-Mississippi Battalion Cavalry.

Union County men also served in home guard and local defense companies, as well as the 1st Arkansas Battalion Reserve Cavalry, but there are very few surviving records of those organizations.
