Just my thinking here.

I believe that Brandenburch's Cavalry probably refers to the company of Desha County Militia organized in the district in which Soloman Brandenburch organized in June 1861. There was obviously a reorganization of these Militia companies with the Conscript Act of April 1862. Some of those men would have probably fallen under the regulations covering that. But some would have been exempted because of their ages or other disqualification and hense still remaining in the Militia Organization.

It would seem obvious that because some of these mens muster rolls as thin as they are indicate that they were captured at Arkansas Post, January 11th, 1863, that there were more men at Arkansas Post than previously thought. There would seem to indicate some sort of mobilization order may have been issued to the local Militias to come to Arkansas Post, but because of the lack of time their assembling may not have been completed by the time of the attack.

Since Lt. Col. William Crawfords command during Arkansas Post was an Infantry Battalion, I believe stationed at St. Charles with Portlock's 24th Arkansas Infantry, His Cavalry command organization was post Arkansas Post.
