There is a POW record for a man captured at Arkansas Post, identified as a private in "Brandenbirch's Cavalry". This was apparently presumed by the compilers of the CSRs as being a regiment. In fact, this man, Joshua Hicks, was a member of Brandenburg's Company Arkansas Cavalry. The very few names I've found to be associated with this company are connected to Desha County. I haven't been able to find a smoking gun, but I believe that Solomon I. Brandenburg, a Desha County businessman, was the captain of the this company. And that's all I have to show for years of looking. Hopefully, someone out there has some further information on this company.
One researcher believes that Brandenburg's Cavalry was actually the "Desha Rangers", and that the company we know as Malcomb's Cavalry Company, Desha Rangers, was actually the result of Malcomb, an officer of Brandenburg's company, back home on recruiting service when Arkansas Post fell. Possible, but I haven't found anything to confirm or deny it.
