Re: Confederate Casualty List--Helena

The regiment At Helena, July 4, 1863, lost 21 killed, 70 wounded and 68 missing.

His record however, shows he received pay and clothing subsequent to Helena. Furthermore, he was carried on the company books through the last muster roll on record Jan/Feb, 1864.

I do not find a record for him in the Engineer or Pioneer Corps. He very well may have died while on detailed duty. His company was however, not aware of his detached service presence.

Isaac Cotrell, age 27, Private, Capt. Hathaway’s Company, McRae’s Regiment,* enlisted June 16, 1862 at Gum [sp?] Springs by Capt. Hathaway for 3 years, detailed to Engineer Corps May 28, 1863, paid July 14, 1863 for the pariod March 1 to April 30, 1863, receipted for an issue of clothing July 18, 1863, recorded absent, Engineer Corps on the August 31, 1863 and
Jan/Feb, 1864 ** muster rolls, no further records

* This company subsequently became Company H, 36th Regiment Arkansas Infantry.
The regiment was designated at various times as McRae’s Regiment Arkansas Infantry, Glenn’s Regiment Arkansas Infantry and Davie’s Regiment Arkansas Infantry; and at the same time it was also known as 2nd Regiment Trans-Mississippi Infantry, 28th Regiment Arkansas Infantry, and 36th Regiment Arkansas Infantry.

** There are no further company muster rolls in the records
