Thomas Pate, Private, Company D, 15th (Johnson’s) Regiment Arkansas Infantry, enlisted November 4, 1861 at Eldorado, Ark. by E. N. Hill for 12 months, recorded on the Nov. 4, 1861 to Oct. 6, 1862 muster roll as absent, absent at time of Surrender where abouts not known, no further information
Note, this is the only muster roll for the Company found in the records where they were then stationed at Jackson, Miss. They note: “Were at the Fort Donelson surrender & surrendered with that place on the 16th Feby, 1862.”
Company C continues: “Taken North by the enemy, remained there until Exchanged for at Vicksburg. Ordered to Jackson, Miss. to Reorganize.”
There is no record of his capture and imprisonment by the Yankees. He either escaped from Fort Donelson and not included in the surrender, or may have been killed and not so recognized. He is not further recorded on any rolls of Arkansas units that I could find.
