Lt. Col. John W. Stephens, 11th Missouri Cavalry in his report states:

“I moved the command [from Batesville] through Smithville to a point on Spring River, known as the Widow Marshall's, where I received the first definite information of the whereabouts of the enemy's forces, he having left that point the same day an moved up Spring River westwardly to appoint the same day and moved up Spring River westwardly to a point known as Morgan’s Mill, near the mouth of Martin's Creek.”
OR Ser. 1, V. 34, Pt. 1, p. 133

Now, on the Atlas to Accompany the Official Records of the War of Reunion, Plate 153, E5/6, Red Bank is found, located on the Spring River where a creek from the North meets the River. I would assume this to be Morgan’s Mill as described above.

Red Bank is located 16 miles on Spring River, North of Smithville, slightly West of North, and is 30 miles South of East from Salem on the road to Jackson
