150th Red River Campaign

Hello, this April 2nd-6th 2014 my mess, the Butcherknife Roughnecks will be hosting an invite only event portraying men from Tappan's brigade during the Red River Campaign. This event will consist of a static camp in Keatchie Louisiana for two days starting Wednesday the 2nd through Friday the 4th. Then, at first light on the 4th we will march 25 miles to the Mansfield battlefield and bivouac there as the Arkansas troops did after the battle of Mansfield (which they were not present for) did. On Saturday the 5th we will march the remaining 15 miles to Pleasant Hill as the Arkansans did and partake in the battle scenario on Sunday. The reason I'm posting this is to see if any of you have insight into those Arkansas soldiers on the campaign. The problem we are running into is that sources on those troops are hard to come by, as there is little out there. We have been able to figure out an impression guideline (they had been issued new uniforms in Shreveport a few days prior), but I was wondering if any of you had insight into the state of their clothing and equipment. Also, we're trying to figure out which unit we will portray, as of now we are just saying "Generic Arkansas infantry of Tappan's Brigade." We are leaning towards portraying a unit in the 33rd Arkansas because the best source that has been found is that of the letters from Junius Newport Bragg who was the surgeon of the 33rd. If any of you have any leads for good sources, it would be greatly appreciated. If you'd like, look at our website which is in the process of being filled out and tell us what you think of the impression guidelines, etc.

Thank you very much.
