I notice that, in Cabell's report of the Battle of Fayettevile (OR Series I, Vol. 22, Pt. 1, p.311), he states of Hughey's Battery that "his men were all taken a little over a month ago from the camp of instruction at Dardanelle..." Perhaps Hughey was assigned, sometime in March 1863, to a company drawn from a pool of men being trained in the artillery service.
