The Scrapers were Pins from Goingsnake District, Cherokee Nation. Henry H. Scraper was corporal in Drew's 1st Cherokee Mtd Rifles, Co. G. His father George was captain and his uncle Archibald was 2nd Lt.. William in Drew's Regt may be his older brother or may be his uncle, Otter Scraper. Family lore says they defected at Chusto Talasah (aka Caving Banks aka Battle of Bird Creek), Dec. 9, 1861.

On the roster of the 2nd Indian Home Guard, Co. D -- uncle Arch is captain, father George is first sergeant, and Henry is sergeant. Henry's brother William M. was in the 2nd IHG at Honey Springs, took ill, and died at his home in 1864 -- but does not appear on the roster. His uncle William "Otter" Scraper is in the 3rd IHG, co. L (the artillery company). This family was close friends with Zeke Proctor who was also 2nd IHG co. L.
