Thanks Alan, I'll have to check that out the next time I'm down there.

There are a lot of holes as to what happen to the 3rd Arkansas at Chickamauga, especially on September 19th. The Miears Diary has (for me) filled a lot of the history of the 2nd Arkansas Battalion in its brief 8 month existance prior to it destruction and being disbanded to be combined with the 3rd Arkansas. I am hoping that it may give some additional insight as to what happened to the 3rd Ark. (and those survivors of the 2nd Arkansas Battalion) in Vinard's Field on the 19th of September. I am given to believe that September 19th, 1864 was the day that the 3rd Arkansas almost died (ceased to exist) as a useful regiment. And that its sacrifice that day may well have riveled the single day casualities percentages of any regiment during the war.

Calvin Collier's Book "They'll Do To Tie To" is an excellant book for it day. But it is seriously dated and the story of the 2nd Arkansas Battalion and the 3rd Arkansas Infantry needs to be updated to include all the newer material that have been found since it was written such as the Miears Diary.
