Re: Numbering of Artillery Units

Bryan

I am still confused about these two infantry units that became artillery:

Company A, 1st Tennessee Heavy Artillery Commanded by Captain Frederick William Hoadley, origionally designated the "Magruder Guards",
Company D, 4th Arkansas Infantry Battalion[69]

and

Company B, 1st Tennessee Light Artillery Commanded by Capt. D. Whit Harris and later Capt. Paul Thomas Dismukes, formerly known as teh "McCown Guards"

First I am not sure that I have the designations correct. on Hoadley, I seem to find references that say Company A, and another that says Company B.

Second, Dismukes shows up on the list of Transmississippi Artillery in November 1864, but it is listed as Heavy Artillery, and I think I have seen references to them as Light Artillery

Would appreciate your help straightening this out.
