Arkadelphia Guards

Trying to track down what became of a Volunteer Cavalry Company from the 28th Militia Regiment by the name of the Arkadelphia Guards. They first appear in a letter from Colonel William M. Bruce 28th Regiment, Arkansas Militia to Governor Henry M. Rector, Tuesday, January 15, 1861 notifying Rector of the election of officers for the "Arkadelphia Guards," . The next reference that I have to them comes from the Arkansas Military Department Records, List of Commissioned Officers in State Militia 1827–1862, Microfilm Roll 00000038-8, Page 501. On 25 January when Henery B. Stewart is issued a Militia Commission as Captian, Arkadelphia Guards. The entry indicates that Stewart is a replacement for Charles Starks, who I presume is later the commander of Clark County Volunteers.

The next reference is when Col. William M. Bruce, writes to Governor Henry M. Rector on March 29, 1861 requesting commissions for newly-elected officers of the 28th Regiment, Arkansas Militia. Bruce writes two volunteer companies are forming, the "Clark County Light Artillery" under Captain Frank Roberts and the "Jackson Blues" under Captain Shaw. He requests a fife and drum for both companies. A newsclipping praises the "Clark County Light Artillery," and asks what has become of the "Arkadelphia Guards." Kie Oldham papers
