Re: 38th Arkansas Infantry Regiment
The 38th was infantry and as such was not involved at Poison Springs or Marks Mills which were both cavalry battles. They were part of Smith's infantry that moved up from La to engage at Jenkin's Ferry. The 38th was part of Churchill's Ark Division which first hit the enemy in Cooper Field there. The flag in the ARNG Musuem is probably one of Churchill's units. The 38/27th did not lose their flag as detailed by Silas Turnbo and his description of Jenkins Ferry. I would have to look and see where they were when Mansfield and Pleasant Hill occurred, but I don't think Churchill's bunch got in the fighting there but were staging and then missed out and then led the van north back to Arkansas when they were the first infantry to catch Steele's bunch there in the Saline River bottoms.
