Does anyone have a date on the faked made up letters from Little Rock, that told how great things were in Little Rock with dances and parties all the time and the build up of fine troops in the area. Trooper Walter Scott was given a fast horse and told to make contact with the enemy and lose the mail bag of false letters. I beleive this happen when Curtis was in the Batesville Area or moving down the White River. Just a little ploy to make the Union Army think all's well in Little Rock and make Curtis think twice before attacking the city. I've read somewhere that Robert C. Newton and Hindman were behind the letter writing scheme. Anyone have anything on this?
