First off, there's an image of Shaler at the U of California, from Shaler's days as head of the Panama RR (he was, BTW, instrumental in the 1903 revolution there).
John Coulter Boone is in my book's appendix. He wa born 5-13-1816 in St. Charles County, MO, the son of Nathan Boone and Olive Van Bibber. He died 9-12-1893 in Sulphur Springs, AR. There's an AR Confed pension app for his widow. He wasn't a Confederate army full colonel, BTW. Evidently he tried to raise a regiment in MO, but never succeeded.
