Re: Appeal Battery at Vicksburg
In Response To: Appeal Battery at Vicksburg ()

I am always interested to see anything about the Memphis Appeal Battery since my ggfather Henry T. Hawkins was in this unit. As a matter of interest, there is a historical marker on the Vicksurg battlefield that shows the Appeal Battery to be in "Maury's-Forney's Div.:Army of Vicksburg. Capt. William N.Hogg: Lieut. Christopher C. Scott: Lieut. Robert N. Cotton."
The marker states "A detachmeent of the battery, under Lieut. Christopher C. Scott, served one 3-inch rifle in this position, Third Louisiana Redan, from May 18 to the end of the defence, July 4, 1863. Casualties in battery during the defense: Killed 4. Wounded 5. total 9. Capt. William N. Hogg and Lieut. Robert S. Walker killed. Lieut. Christopher C. Scott wounded on duty in this position June 25."
Recognizing that markers are not always completely accurate, any comments or additional info about this battery will be appreciated.
