Holmes had been a widower for two or three years at the time and was rumored to have been seeing a "Widow Lady" while in command of the Trans- Mississippi in Little Rock presumedly 1862-1863. I am sure that Holmes would have been at least somewhat involved with the social climate in Little Rock while he was in command here. Does anyone know of the validity of this story, or possibly the name of the lady?
