When Gen. Shelby attack Ashley's Station and Jones Hay Station, Aug. 24, 1864. The 12th Michigan Inf was brought in as reinforcements on a train from Duvalls Bluff, as soon as Lt. Litherland saw the confederate cavalry waiting for them near the tracks. He ordered the train reversed and made a quick exit back to Duvalls Bluff.
