John Edward Hurst, b. 15 Jun 1842 in SC, son of John Wesley and Janetta (Dubose) Hurst. The 1850 Census for the Fourth Division, Darlington County, SC, and his tombstone inscription, verifies this information. This same record reveals he had a brother named Simeon. The household was next door to that of H.W. Dubose (Janetta’s maiden name). Simeon also served in the 14th NC Inf. Both brothers moved to Arkansas after the war. Brother Simeon died in 1874 in Saline County, AR, burial place unknown. Dr. Hurst died 13 Jun 1913, burial in Bryant Cemetery, Saline County, AR. Hannah died 01 Aug 1926, burial also in Bryant Cemetery. Some census records show his name as Edward J., but his gravestone is inscribed Dr. J.E. Hurst.

John Wesley Hurst was Janetta’s 2nd husband, her first being Jehu Mixon, born 1767 in Darlington County, SC, and died 10 Oct 1831, Darlington County. John W. and Janetta married about 1838 (I have not verified this).

John Wesley was born 1811 in Newman Swamp, SC, son of Jesse D. and Nancy (McLaurin) Hurst. Janetta died in 1871, burial place unknown (not verified). John next married Mary B. Windham, and they had three children. John died in 1876. Mary appears as a widow in the 1880 Census for Cypress TWP, Darlington County, SC, with four children: daughter Anna A., age 8; daughter Lottie D., age 5; son John W., age 4. Mary died 25 Oct 1908, burial place unknown.

Jesse was born 1793 in SC, son of Isaac Henry and Priscilla (Marle) Hurst (not verified).

Hope this gives a few leads to pursue. Good luck in your research.
