Quintin,,,,Apparently the firm of HOLCOMB & BARNARD at Fayetville issued small denomination script in 1862. A 25 cent note redeemable in services or Confederate notes at the DRUG store was offered for sale as late as 2007. I do not have the book but you will find futher information in,"Arkansas Notes and Script." by Matt Rothert an excellent reference of Arkansas history with stories etc..

At the beginning of the war all hard currency or U.S.coins were hoarded and disapeared from circulation within a few months. In order to continue business transactions private companies and counties were allowed to issue notes redeemable at their businesses or offices usually in sums of either 5,10,25,75 cents and 1,2,3 dollar. All are of course quite rare today.

If you are related to this fellow Barnard,it will most likely have his signature on it.
