Ft. Hindman/Arkansas Post/Blue Wing Civil War Ship

Hi,

I had a lot of family in the Civil War. Most of these I am still trying to find information on. Today, I had someone tell me about the recent discovery of the Civil War ship "Blue Wing" in a gravel pit near Newark, AR (close to Batesville, AR). The White River was known for boats and ships traveling up and down it to the Mississippi during the war supplying the Confederate Army. I have been unable to verify the discovery of the Blue Wing. Although, people in the area around Newark, says the gravel pit, which obviously sits in the middle of nowhere up there, all of a sudden is fenced off and has guards surrounding it.

It is possible that I, along with other Arkansas natives, had family on that ship when it sunk. I have not been able to find any kind of a list of CS soldiers who was on the ship when it was captured in Dec. 1862 or when it "disappeared" in 1863.

If anyone has any information on this ship or its discovery, I would appreciate an email on it.

Thank you,
Bonnie Graves
