George W. Gray enlisted as a Private in Captain Gibson's Company, Arkansas Infantry May 3, 1862 at Monticello, Arkansas by A. G. Greenwood for 3 years or the war, detailed June 25, 1862 to serve with the 9th Texas Field Battery, returned about July 15, 1862, detailed as an Engineer, Company of Sappers & Miners at Little Rock, August 10, 1862, subscribed Oath of Allegiance to the United States, February 14, 1864 at Chattanooga, Tenn., resident of Drew County, Arkansas

* This company subsequently became Company B, 26th Arkansas Infantry. The regiment was designated at various times as Morgan's Battalion Arkansas Infantry, 3rd Regiment Trans-Mississippi Infantry, 3rd Regiment Arkansas Infantry, Morgan's Regiment Arkansas Infantry, and 26th Regiment Arkansas Infantry.
